Kjeld Duits About the Author

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I was expecting you to make this report since we have seen so many Chaplin-like hats ^^
Kazuya and Iccho’s are my favorites, besides the green self-made flower hat, so unique! <3
Thanks for the recopilation ^^

@Maria: You are very welcome. I am amazed that you remember the names of the people! I should have added them with links!

I loved 37 and 39 best :D i suppose i have more conventional hat tastes :)

@Stef: Those two hats are by the same designers: Eily and Jammy of NEVERLAND. I introduced them last year (about half way down the page).

@Stef: I shared the link to a friend, she liked 37 and 39 too, I told her those were the same hat in different colors xD
@KD: I remembered Kazuya because he has various photos, and Iccho is a uncommon name ^^” But the flower, I can’t remember her name…

@Maria: Interesting that 37 and 39 caught both Stef’s and your friend’s fancy. But the flower, I can’t remember her name… — You mean Mika?

Kjeld Duits (author)
Feb 13, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@KD: Yes! Two friends told me they like 39! :D Tsuru would have some profits outside Japan!
Ah, Mika! I only remembered that it was self-made (n_n”)

@maria and KD: haha, really? :) i’d love to get a hat like that…I might be in Japan by April or May this year…hmm…

@stef: You can purchase the #37 and 39 hats online at the NEVERLAND site (al in Japanese). Here are some shops for when you visit Japan: CA4LA, MAOZI, Bunjirow, Coppoletta (Osaka and online), and 7HIRO (pronounce as “Chihiro”). There is one more good chain store for hats that I can't recall right now.

@KD: Thanks! :) I’ll put it on my list :D

@Stef: Very welcome. If you don’t have enough time during your visit, make sure to at least visit one CA4LA store. They have the best collection of them all. CA4LA is everywhere, but they also have a great outlet store near Tokyo at Gotemba Premium Outlets. It is a bit inconveniently located, but the shopping is great, and you have a great view on Mt. Fuji!

Kjeld Duits (author)
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@Stef: CA4LA, by the way, is pronounced as kah-she-lah. There is no stress in Japanese, so pronounce each syllable equally. If you already know this, my apologies. ^_-

Kjeld Duits (author)
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@KD: Thanks! I don’t know if I’ll be able to go to the outlet since I’ll actually be going with my family; we might stay in the Shibuya area :)

stef
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@KD: Shibuya is the location of the JS office! You can actually take a train from Shibuya to Gotemba Premium Outlets. That’s what I always do. There is a also a special bus from Shinjuku, near Shibuya.

Kjeld Duits (author)
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@KD: that’s great! I’ll try to work it in. We’re only staying for around 4 days, and there’s a lot of people coming so it’s going to be hard (especially since I’m going with elderly relatives; they wouldn’t much be interested in shopping since it’s relatively expensive there). thanks alot :)

stef
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@Stef: If you only have four days, definitely skip Gotemba. It is only worth it if you have a few weeks available. Enjoy your brief stay in Tokyo!

Kjeld Duits (author)
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@Stef: Great! Have a nice/safe trip ^^ Take a lot of photos, and share them with us please! :D
@KD: I didn’t know how to pronounce CA4LA, I would have never thought that the “4” would be pronounce in japanese xD

Maria
Feb 14, 2012 (4478 days ago)

@Maria: Yes, this is one of these inside things that are difficult to find out if you don’t actually talk about the shop with someone. The pronunciation isn’t obvious at all when you just see it written.

Oh that’s great – it takes me back to Tokyo and Japan where for 2 x weeks last November (2012) we were there
to write an in-depth story (36 pages) on ‘The Hat’ covering small designers, shops, factories, street people!
Visiting Tokyo, Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto – it was great……….
Well done Japan!!

@Carole Denford: Thank you. Would love to see your report and hear about your impressions on how the Japanese hat culture and hat fashion in general differ from the other markets you are familiar with.

@Jenn: Oh, your are right. And I put this together. LOL Thank you for cheering up my day. I am laughing off my chair about my own mistake at the moment. ^_-

That is Ryo

By the way, it is very easy to find specific people on the photoblog. You can do a search (like for “hat”) or click on the small block icon on top of the top page. This will take you to the photoblog page with lots of thumbnails. Combine the two, and you have found what you’re looking for in no time. ^^

I absolutely love hat #42.
everything he wears is amazing…and most amazing is the way in which he looks such a natural at combining all those accessories and hair with his clothes to look fabulous.

he is also one of the prettiest man I’ve even seen (blush)

I like a lot of the hats. They’re so colourful and imaginative! I know my friend Kaitlyn and probably even Katlyn (there is a difference!) and Emma who is totally into hats.

Hi here, my favourites are 31, 39 and 40, because these ones are the most classic and I like these kinds of hats and caps. I just started looking into in Japanese fashion styles. I'm from Europe. Have a nice day, guys!
